Peace Activists to Meet at Rick Allen’s (GA-12) Office in Augusta to Stop Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia

On Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at 10 am, peace activists in Augusta, Georgia are scheduled to meet with a member of Representative Rick Allen’s staff to urge Mr. Allen to oppose the Obama Administration’s decision to sell more weapons to Saudi Arabia as it continues to commit war crimes in Yemen.

Join us at Mr. Allen’s office at 2743 Perimeter Parkway Bldg. 200, Suite 225 Augusta, GA 30909 at 10 am on Tuesday. If you can’t make it, call, fax or e-mail Mr. Allen using the contact information at his website.

Representative Ted Lieu has sent a letter to President Obama requesting he withdraw his administration’s notification of intent to sell $1.15 billion of weapons to Saudi Arabia and allow Congress meaningful debate after the upcoming recess. We request Mr. Allen to add his name to the letter, as many other members of the House of Representatives have.

Additional actions you may consider include:

  1. Calling your senators and asking them to support Senate Joint Resolution 39, which would block the sale of more arms to Saudi Arabia.
  2. If you use Twitter and/or Facebook, join a social media Thunderclap to encourage others to oppose this weapons transfer.
  3. Use this Amnesty International action alert to send a message to President Obama.

A broad coalition of groups has joined the effort to stop this arms sale and many of these groups have additional resources, background and information to help you in these efforts. A list of some of these organizations can be found here at the end of this joint sign-on letter.

Amnesty International has called for an end to arms transfers to Saudi Arabia. See States must stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia for use in Yemen conflict, February 26, 2016.
