Hiroshima Vigil, Columbia, SC, Aug 6, 7 pm

On August 6, 2016, the 71st anniversary of the detonation of the first atomic bomb over Hiroshima, attend a peace vigil at 7:00 PM at Columbia Friends Meeting, 120 Pisgah Church Road, Columbia, SC 29203. We are planting a peace pole. This event is open to the public. It is a free interfaith memorial. Prayers from faith groups over the city have been asked to contribute. An hour-long reflective vigil marking the 70th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and calling for nuclear disarmament.  Featuring a string quartet directed by Morihiko Nakahara of the SC Philharmonic.

David Culp is the FCNL Legislative Representative focusing on Nuclear Disarmament legislation. David has 15 years experience on nuclear arms control and disarmament legislation. He was instrumental in the passage of the nuclear testing moratorium in 1992; the ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention in 1997; and the defeat of a new nuclear warhead, or nuclear “bunker buster” in 2004. He is one of six registered lobbyists on nuclear disarmament on Capitol Hill.
